Summary: This role is for a mid-level Legal Counsel within a global Legal Department, focusing on UK-centric legal matters while collaborating with international teams. The position involves supporting the Global Procurement and Technology functions, managing procurement contracts, and providing legal advice across various divisions. The contract is for 12 months with potential for a permanent position in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead legal business partner supporting the Global Procurement function with a range of Indirect/IT, Pre-press, Printing and Warehousing, and Transportation.
- Manage private and confidential procurement matters, including full life cycle tender processes and contract negotiations.
- Provide legal support for the Global Technology function.
- Offer ad hoc legal support across the Education and Healthcare divisions.
- Advise on technology contracts, including SaaS contracts and software licensing.
- Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on commercial contracts and IP-related agreements.
- Implement strategic improvements to legal business partnering processes.
- Provide objective analysis of risks related to commercial and consumer law and intellectual property matters.
- Lead projects with notable risk and complexity.
- Communicate with and manage diverse stakeholder groups.
- Mentor junior colleagues across the General Counsel’s Office.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 4 years’ PQE with a general commercial background, ideally in IT and procurement.
- In-house experience or relevant private practice experience.
- Experience in intellectual property matters, especially copyright and licensing (not essential).
- Interest in publishing/media, particularly academic/scientific publishing.
