We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Advisor to provide comprehensive legal advice and support across a charity. This role involves ensuring compliance with legislation and sector best practice, and advising directors and senior leadership on regulatory and compliance matters.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage a caseload of commercial property matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and leases.
  • Conduct legal due diligence and title investigations.
  • Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.
  • Advise on the legal risk and potential mitigations in commercial relationships with suppliers including tenders, contracts, and disputes.
  • Update and manage the contract management database.
  • Provide professional legal advice and support in relation to all property transactions and miscellaneous property issues.
  • Support and advise internal teams in relation to major property projects.
  • Deal with all aspects of the acquisitions, renewals, disposals of the charity’s retail shops when dealt with in-house and overseeing transactions when outsourced.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and non-commercial contracts.
  • Advise on agreements, including licensing, grant funding, sponsorship, and educational placement agreements.
  • Support senior managers in navigating new legal and regulatory developments.
  • Provide guidance and review compliance on governance frameworks and practice, and monitor healthcare legislation as it affects the charity’s areas of operations.
  • Provide guidance on professional regulatory matters.
  • Advise on political campaigning restrictions, and unauthorised fundraising practice.
  • Review and advise on changes to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Advise on HM Coroner matters, StJRs, Deprivation of Liberty Standards, LPAs, and requests for patient data.
  • Advise on complaints up to Ombudsman level.
  • Advise on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters (anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, data protection, care standards, and charity regulations).
  • Undertake other job-related duties and special projects, contributing to the overall success of the legal team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Solicitor with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Significant experience in charity law, probate law, property law, conveyancing, employment law, tribunals, and contract law.
  • Educated to degree level or higher.
  • Current practising certificate.
  • Strong proficiency in navigating relevant legislation impacting charities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and convey legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, manage workload, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, resilience, and professionalism in managing disputes and challenges.
  • Experience of managing a contract management database.
  • Analytical skills with a solution-driven approach.
  • Able to draft with clarity and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Prior in-house experience is an advantage.
  • Flexible working approach.
  • Able to undertake legal research.
  • Proficient in using IT.
