Contract Type: Temporary ongoing until at least June 2027
Hourly Rate: 26.41 per hour, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, Hybrid
Our client, a prominent organisation within the legal sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Advisor to join their dynamic team in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional to provide comprehensive legal services to Chief Constables, officers, and staff, as well as to the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC).
Key Responsibilities
- Offer tactical and strategic legal advice across a wide range of legal issues, including civil claims, Employment Tribunals, Inquests, and Judicial Review applications.
- Manage a diverse caseload, investigating and advising on contentious and non-contentious matters, while ensuring proactive legal support for police operations.
- Collaborate with police officers, staff, and partner agencies to obtain civil preventative orders, while working to mitigate strategic legal risks.
- Provide advocacy representation for the Chief Constable in various legal proceedings, ensuring thorough preparation and effective communication.
- Supervise and mentor paralegals and legal administrators, fostering a collaborative team environment.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- An LLB (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification, with relevant professional qualifications as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
- Proven experience in handling contentious legal matters, with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, legislation, and police law.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence decision-making at all organisational levels.
- Strong research and investigative skills, coupled with high attention to detail and the ability to manage a diverse caseload in a high-pressure environment.
- IT literacy and familiarity with specialist databases and case management systems.
