Summary: The Lead SQL Developer will be integral to a major data migration programme within a leading banking organisation, focusing on modernising data platforms to enhance data-driven decision-making. This role involves collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and integrity throughout the migration process. The position requires advanced SQL development skills and experience in data migration projects, particularly within a regulated environment. The contract is expected to last for 12 months or more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimise SQL-based data solutions using T-SQL and the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS, SSIS).
- Develop, maintain, and enhance complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts.
- Support end-to-end data migration activities, including analysis, transformation, validation, and deployment.
- Analyse complex legacy data sets to understand structure, quality, and usage, particularly where documentation is limited.
- Translate business requirements into clear, scalable technical solutions.
- Perform source-to-target data mapping, defining transformations and business rules.
- Conduct data profiling to identify quality issues and support remediation efforts.
- Work with data models and entity relationship diagrams across source and target systems.
- Optimise database performance and improve efficiency of SQL processes.
- Perform unit testing, troubleshoot issues, and support system integration.
- Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience as a SQL Developer, with advanced skills in T-SQL (or PL/SQL).
- Proven experience working on data migration or data transformation projects.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft BI tools (SSRS, SSIS; SSAS is a plus).
- Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data modelling.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets in enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms; experience with Databricks is advantageous.
- Microsoft SQL certifications are a plus.
- Experience working in agile environments, with exposure to CI/CD practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
