Summary: The Lead Platform Engineer role focuses on providing technical leadership while remaining hands-on in managing AWS and on-prem infrastructure. The position requires mentoring a small team of engineers and ensuring the stability, security, and operation of critical platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience in secure government environments and hold active SC clearance. The role is hybrid, requiring on-site presence every two weeks in Solihull.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and support secure AWS and on-prem infrastructure within enterprise environments
- Provide L3 support across incidents, problems and change activities
- Lead platform patching, upgrades and release activities across cloud and on-prem systems
- Support CI/CD tooling and environment readiness across delivery stages
- Maintain platform documentation, including low-level designs and operational artefacts
- Contribute to security remediation, vulnerability management and compliance activities
- Mentor and technically guide a small team of 2-3 platform engineers
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS platform services
- Solid Linux systems engineering background
- Proven experience supporting on-prem infrastructure, including virtualisation, networking or firewalls
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and supporting delivery environments
- Background operating secure, highly regulated platforms
- Ability to lead by example and mentor engineers without direct line management

You will also have active SC Clearance and be able to attend visits to a site in Solihul every other week, sometimes more frequently.
