Summary: The role of Interim Lead Data Architect involves joining a fast-scaling digital business at a crucial time, reporting directly to the Managing Director. This hands-on position focuses on auditing and stabilizing the data environment, resolving data quality issues, and establishing a scalable data function. The successful candidate will be the first dedicated data hire, shaping the future data strategy of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Audit current data infrastructure (BigQuery, Postgres, AlloyDB)
- Identify and resolve data quality, consistency, and accessibility issues
- Recommend and implement a centralised data structure and governance model
- Work directly with the MD to align data to business priorities
- Collaborate with engineers and offshore support to deliver initial fixes
- Define requirements for future team structure, platforms, and tooling
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or Lead Data Consultant
- Strong technical knowledge of cloud-based data platforms
- Ability to work hands-on with data models, pipelines, and schema design
- Experience joining up messy, fragmented datasets across teams or silos
- Clear communicator — able to influence non-technical stakeholders
- Previous experience as the first data hire or in high-growth environments is a plus
