Principal AWS Platform Engineer

London - Hybrid

Contract - Inside IR35

We are working with a global financial organisation looking to hire a Principal AWS Platform Engineer to take a leading role in the evolution of its cloud platform. This is a senior hands-on engineering position within an established AWS environment that is expected to grow significantly over the coming years. You’ll help shape the AWS foundations required to support that growth, ensuring the platform can scale securely and reliably as adoption increases across the organisation. The role combines deep AWS platform engineering with technical leadership, with a strong focus on cloud foundations, automation, security, governance and operational resilience.

The role

• Take technical ownership of an established enterprise AWS platform.
• Design and evolve the AWS foundations required to support significant growth in cloud adoption.
• Develop and improve multi-account architecture, account provisioning, governance and security controls.
• Work extensively with AWS Organizations, Control Tower and Account Factory for Terraform (AFT).
• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
• Use Python to automate platform and operational processes.
• Make technical decisions around platform architecture and engineering standards.
• Build scalable and repeatable ways for development teams to consume AWS.
• Support the reliability, monitoring and operational stability of the platform.
• Work closely with engineering, security and architecture teams across the organisation.

What we're looking for

• Strong hands-on AWS platform engineering experience within complex enterprise environments.
• Experience designing, operating and improving AWS foundations across large multi-account environments.
• Strong experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower and Account Factory for Terraform (AFT), including automated account provisioning and governance.
• Strong Terraform experience, including building and maintaining infrastructure at scale.
• Python experience for cloud automation and platform engineering.
• Strong understanding of AWS security, governance and operational resilience.
• Experience taking long-term ownership of live cloud platforms and continuously improving them as they scale.
• Comfortable operating at Principal level while remaining highly hands-on.
• Kubernetes / EKS experience would be beneficial.
• Experience within financial services or another regulated environment would be beneficial.
