Summary: The Lead Automation Project Engineer will serve as the primary contact for Automation activities under a Master Service Agreement, ensuring that all technical, commercial, and scheduling requirements are fulfilled. This role combines responsibilities of a Project Engineer and a Lead Automation Engineer, focusing on the delivery and execution of Automation projects. The position is contract-based, located in Stockport, Manchester, with a hybrid working arrangement. The contract duration is initially set for 12 months but has the potential for renewal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and be accountable for the delivery, execution and performance of automation projects including upgrades/migrations and new installations.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects, such as Honeywell DCS and FSC to Safety Manager migration and PLC replacements.
  • Maintain regular client interface, including bi-weekly site visits to Phillips66 facilities.
  • Determine new project requirements and develop comprehensive estimates with support from Automation & C&I engineers.
  • Prioritise activities and projects based on business needs and resource availability.
  • Create and maintain project schedules and resource planning.
  • Provide progress reporting to portfolio management.
  • Contribute to projects by writing and checking project deliverables and conducting site surveys.
  • Develop standardised processes and templates for future projects.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in automation project delivery within the oil, gas, petrochemical or similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of DCS systems and Functional Safety 'SIS' implementations.
  • Experience with various PLC platforms and their integration.
  • Proficient in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent client management and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate technical teams.
  • Ability to develop accurate technical and commercial estimates.
  • Experience in resource planning and scheduling.
  • Demonstrated capability in writing technical specifications and documentation.

We are currently looking for a Lead Automation Project Engineer to act as the focal point for Automation activities on a long-standing Master Service Agreement, ensuring all technical, commercial, and schedule requirements are met. The role is a mix of Project Engineer (i.e. manage delivery, execution and performance of Automation projects) and Lead Automation Engineer (i.e. deliver Automation scope of works). This is a contract position inside IR35 located in Stockport, Manchester, with hybrid work available, 3 days in the office. The contract will initially be for 12 months but is likely to be long term.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead and be accountable for the delivery, execution and performance of automation projects including upgrades/migrations as well as new installations.
  • At any one time oversee a number of concurrent projects, such as: Honeywell DCS and FSC to Safety Manager migration PLC replacements (various manufacturers)
  • Regular client interface, including bi-weekly site visits to Phillips66 facilities
  • Determine new project requirements and develop comprehensive estimates (manhours & materials) with support from Automation & C&I engineers
  • Prioritise activities and projects based on business needs and resource availability
  • Create and maintain project schedules and resource planning
  • Provide progress reporting to portfolio management
  • During periods of reduced ’supervisory' duties, actively contribute to projects by: Writing and checking project deliverables (technical specifications, I/O schedules, drawings) Site Surveys to support estimates. Developing standardised processes and templates for future projects
