Summary: The Lead Application Engineer will play a pivotal role in the tendering department, focusing on HV substation, HVDC, BESS, and offshore wind projects. This position involves leading technical input for complex bids and ensuring alignment with client requirements. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop competitive proposals that support the global energy transition. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high-voltage engineering and a strong understanding of substation design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical preparation and submission of bids for HV substation opportunities
- Provide expertise in substation design and primary plant engineering
- Collaborate with commercial teams to develop optimised technical solutions
- Analyse customer requirements and recommend suitable equipment and system configurations
- Prepare technical documentation including scope, schedule and cost inputs
- Develop technical specifications for equipment and services
- Work across engineering disciplines including protection, control/SCADA, telecoms and metering
- Support solutions involving substation integration and OT cyber security considerations
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar relevant qualifications)
- 10+ years’ experience in engineering or customer application engineering within the Transmission and/or Distribution sector
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage AC substation design and primary plant
- Understanding of protection systems, control/SCADA, telecoms, metering and integrated substation systems
- Experience contributing to or leading tendering/bid processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to deliver within tight bid deadlines
- Fluent written and spoken English

We're currently recruiting for a Senior Application Engineer to join our client's tendering team. Our client are a global leader in power and grid technology. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering major High Voltage AC/DC substation projects that support the global energy transition.
You’ll be responsible for leading technical input into complex bids across projects including HV AC substations, HV DC converter stations, offshore wind, battery energy storage, and green hydrogen.
The Role: As the lead engineer during the tendering phase, you’ll work alongside bid managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop technically robust and competitive proposals for high-voltage substation projects. You will play a critical role in shaping solutions for HV AC and DC substations, ensuring technical designs align with client requirements and support successful bid strategies.
