Summary: The role of Laser Operative involves working in a challenging manufacturing environment for a recognized global brand. Key Responsibilities:
- Setting and operating CNC Laser Cutting Machines
- Safely using overhead cranes to load and unload plate steel from machines
- Starting and observing machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining
- Calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as cutting speed and gas pressure
- Selecting and setting up lenses and nozzles based on material type and thickness
- Inspecting, maintaining, and setting cutting head components for quality
- Understanding and interpreting engineering drawings
- Using gauges and measuring equipment to verify dimensions of parts produced
- Safely using hand tools to remove burrs and finish machined components
- Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Conferring with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining problems
- Maintaining continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions
- Maintaining safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Documenting actions by completing production and quality logs
- Keeping work area clean and organized
- Contributing to the improvement of the work area by submitting ideas
Key Skills:
- Good communication skills

- Knowledge of 5S and lean principles
- Ability to work with mathematical problems
- Experience of working with CNC laser cutting tools

Days £18.98 per hour
Backs £22.78 per hour
Night £24.10 per hour
OT 1.5 £28.47
OT 2.0 £37.96
Three shift pattern, but you must be flexible to work any shift. Some shifts may rotate so flexibility is required.
DAYS: 06:45am - 15:00pm (Mon - Thur) 6.45am- 12.45pm (Fri)
BACKS: 14:45pm - 23:00pm(Mon - Thur) 10.45am - 16.45pm(Fri)
NIGHTS: 22:45pm- 07:00am (Mon - Thur) 16.30pm - 22.30pm (Fri)
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Setting and operating CNC Laser Cutting Machines
- Safely using overhead cranes to load and unload plate steel from machines
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as cutting speed, focal position, gas pressure etc…
- Select and set up lenses and Nozzles based on material type and thickness, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment
- Inspection, maintenance and setting of cutting head components in order to achieve the best quality components
- Understand and interpret engineering drawings to verify conformance of machined part dimensions.
- Using gauges and measuring equipment to verify dimensions of parts produced.
- Safely using hand tools to remove burrs and finish machined components
- Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Conferring with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems.
- Maintaining continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintaining safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Keep work area clean and organised
- Contribute to the improvement of the work area by submitting ideas using a CI process
Skills, experience & qualifications required;
- Good communication Skills
- Familiarity with hand tools and engineering equipment
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, engineering drawings, manuals
- Knowledge of 5S and lean principles
- Ability to work with mathematical problems and deal with a variety of variables
- Experience of working with CNC laser cutting tools
Skills, experience & qualifications you may have:
- Time Served in a relevant Engineering Discipline
- Relevant experience in similar role
- Experience of operating Trumpf and Bystronic Laser cutting machines
- Some experience of automation systems would be advantageous
