Summary: The Laboratory Technician role in Cramlington involves preparing and analyzing samples for testing in compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. The technician will support laboratory operations by managing sample processing, maintaining communication with customers, and participating in audits. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement within the laboratory environment. This is a temporary contract lasting 4 weeks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Match samples received from customers with appropriate paperwork and prepare samples for testing.
- Prepare and provide necessary media, broths, and agars to the laboratory.
- Analyse samples in accordance with appropriate analytical test procedures.
- Process samples within agreed turnaround times to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Assist Team Leader with workload handover and prioritization of analysis.
- Participate in internal and external audits and testing schemes.
- Identify and support training needs and maintain training records.
- Inform Team Leader of equipment or method problems for immediate resolution.
- Promote continuous improvement and adherence to quality systems.
- Maintain effective communication with laboratory customers.
- Manage storage and disposal of samples according to customer requirements.
- Perform activities in the transferring laboratory, including counting plates and subbing pathogen samples.
- Assist in the pathogen laboratory as needed to promote teamwork.
- Make up media to supply to the laboratory as instructed.

Job Title – Lab Tech

Main Purpose of Role
- To match samples received from customers with appropriate paperwork and prepare samples for testing by the analytical laboratories in accordance with written and verbal instructions and with due regard to Health, Safety and Quality standards and the principles of GCLP.
- To prepare and provide necessary media, broths and agars to the Laboratory, in accordance with written and verbal instructions and with due regard to Health, Safety and Quality standards and the principles of GCLP.
Key Accountabilities
- Analyse samples in accordance with appropriate analytical test procedures, to ensure that samples are tested in accordance with client requirements.
- Process samples within turnaround times agreed with both our internal and external customers to ensure customer satisfaction is maintained.
- Assist Team Leader with workload handover, to assist in identifying and prioritising analysis for next day.
- Participate in internal and external audits, IQC and EQA testing schemes to demonstrate that the laboratory testing is being performed to an acceptable standard.
- Help identify and support any training needs to build relevant skills and ensure individual Training Records /Training Matrix are kept up to date.
- Promptly inform Team Leader if a problem with equipment or method occurs so that immediate actions can be taken to remedy the problems and return equipment to full service.
- Promote and develop a commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of the laboratories through adherence with quality systems, following up audits and CAPRs/NIRs by completing actions on time.
- Ensure that effective communication is maintained with laboratory customers by taking and answering queries were appropriate.
- To inform the media section of low stock levels of media required by the work area to avoid any delays in service delivery to the clients.
- To manage storage and disposal of samples in accordance with customer requirements.
- To perform activities in the transferring laboratory, this includes counting plates, subbing pathogen samples and Elisa.
- To assist in the pathogen laboratory when required to promote Team work.
- To make up media to supply to the laboratory in accordance with written and verbal instructions and within the principles of GCLP.
