Summary: The Laboratory Technician role at De La Rue is essential for maintaining high standards of quality and performance within the Materials Development team. This position involves hands-on laboratory testing, adherence to ISO 17025 standards, and providing technical support to ensure customer satisfaction. The technician will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support the Lab Manager in developing test methods and procedures. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver best in class execution and reporting for all types of testing.
- Ensure compliance with the Laboratory Quality Management System and ISO 17025.
- Write and review laboratory procedures, test methods, and templates.
- Perform laboratory testing, record results, and prepare reports for sign off.
- Monitor environmental conditions and report non-conformances to Lab Manager.
- Organise equipment calibration and servicing according to schedule.
- Maintain accurate records for secure movement of materials.
- Conduct stock checks and place purchase orders for lab consumables.
- Provide training on lab procedures and test methods as required.
- Support the Lab Manager and internal customers in developing test methods.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality performance.
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with EHS, COSHH, and company security requirements.
Key Skills:
- Qualified to A-Level (or equivalent) in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
- Undergraduate degree in a scientific discipline (desirable).
- Experience in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory and/or industrial environment.
- Experience working with hazardous chemicals.
- Experience in security manufacturing (desirable).
- Ability to work to deadlines.

Working at the heart of our Innovation department, you’ll play a hands-on role in ensuring that our customers receive progressive, creative and high-quality products accompanied by expert technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver best in class execution and reporting for all types of testing and support De La Rue’s ongoing compliance with the Laboratory Quality Management System and ISO 17025, by:
- Following laboratory procedures and ensuring adherence to ISO 17025requirements
- Writing and reviewing laboratory procedures, test methods, templates.
- Performing laboratory testing in line with agreed methods, recording results and preparing reports for sign off.
- Monitoring required environmental conditions and reporting any non-conformances to Lab Manager.
- Organising equipment calibration and servicing according to the calibration & servicing schedule.
- Providing accurate records for secure movement of materials.
- Maintaining the supply of lab consumables by conducting stock checks and placing purchase orders as required.
- Providing training to others on lab procedures and test methods as required.
- Supporting the Lab Manager and internal customers in the development of test methods and laboratory procedures as required.
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives, e.g. taking action to address non-conformities, and implementing appropriate corrective and preventive actions to enhance quality performance.
- Ensure that all activity within the laboratory is conducted in a manner compatible with EHS, COSHH and company security/housekeeping requirements.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified to A-Level (or equivalent) in a technical subject or as an alternative be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience and on the job training.
- Qualified to an undergraduate degree level in a scientific discipline (desirable).
- Experience of working within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory and/or industrial environment.
- Experience of working with hazardous chemicals.
- Experience in security manufacturing (desirable).
- Experience of working to deadlines.
