Summary: The Laboratory Research Assistant role focuses on supporting an antibacterial-vaccine programme within a dynamic spin-out company. The position involves hands-on molecular microbiology tasks and requires a Master's degree in a related field. The role emphasizes collaboration and offers mentorship from experienced scientists. It is a fixed-term contract for six months based in Central London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Molecular biology tasks including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and small-scale protein purification.
- Routine culture work and sterile-technique experiments to generate and characterise bacterial strains.
- Support sequencing, microscopy, and proteomic workflows through sample preparation.
- Record, analyse, and present results using standard software; contribute to lab meetings and troubleshooting.
- Maintain reagent stocks, uphold safety/biosafety compliance, and assist with general laboratory upkeep.
Key Skills:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with core molecular or microbiological techniques.
- Strong organisational skills and meticulous record-keeping.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Experience with bacterial genetic manipulation (e.g. transformation, CRISPR, transposon mutagenesis) is desirable.
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety and sterile protocols.
