Summary: The Lab Engineer role is essential for supporting laboratory environments that depend on secure and validated computing systems. The position involves collaborating with scientific teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of laboratory instruments and data flows. The engineer will engage in hands-on troubleshooting and technical support, contributing to research through modern infrastructure and advanced analytical technologies. This role requires a strong background in end-user computing and troubleshooting within regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, support, and troubleshoot a global fleet of ~8000 end-user computers across scientific and laboratory environments.
- Image, configure, and onboard new computers into the domain and ensure successful integration into lab networks.
- Secure new and existing hardware following IT security best practices and organisational standards.
- Work directly with scientists and business teams to resolve equipment-related issues and provide technical guidance.
- Troubleshoot, optimise, and implement data flows for various scientific instruments.
- Support validated data backup solutions for analytical equipment, including configuration, documentation, and equipment/software investigation.
- Provide incident management support, user coaching, and access management within R&D settings.
- Manage and resolve tickets through systems such as ServiceNow while ensuring quality and timely resolution.
Key Skills:
- Strong computer troubleshooting abilities across hardware, connectivity, network, and laboratory software issues.
- Background in End-User Computing, Desktop Support, or similar break/fix roles (approx. 80% workload).
- Understanding of IP Addressing, subnetting, IT/OT networks, and basic Firewall concepts.
- Strong familiarity with the OSI model and troubleshooting across network layers.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory for device/user management.
- Understanding of computer and endpoint security principles.
- Experience supporting validated systems (GxP) or regulated environments.
- Experience working with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.

With exposure to modern infrastructure, validated systems (GxP), IT/OT networks, and advanced analytical technologies, you will be at the forefront of enabling research through hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and technical expertise.
