Summary: The role of Junior Sister/Charge Nurse in the respiratory team at UHSussex involves providing acute respiratory nursing care to patients with various respiratory conditions. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing care needs, implementing care plans, and supervising junior staff within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. This position requires a strong commitment to patient-focused care and adherence to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct. Opportunities may also exist to work in the newly opened Same Day Emergency Care for Respiratory Patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide effective, safe, evidence-based patient care in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care.
- Monitor care standards through audits and other activities.
- Process admissions and transfers, and plan discharges in accordance with UHSussex policy.
- Promote education for patients, their relatives, and colleagues.
- Ensure provision of all prescribed drugs in accordance with UHSussex Policy.
- Engage with the Patient First Improvement Program.
- Act as the designated deputy to the Ward Manager.
- Teach and supervise junior and unqualified staff.
Key Skills:
- Acute Medicine experience.
- NMC Registered Nurse.
- Mentorship/Practice Assessor or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of leading a team.
- Relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Desirable: Respiratory experience, Band 6 experience, Leadership qualification.
- Evidence of championing diversity and understanding equalities issues.
