Summary: This role is for a Joining Engineer specializing in Body in White (BIW) manufacturing within the automotive sector, focusing on developing new joining technologies and improving existing processes. The position involves collaboration with project teams, conducting benchmarking studies, and writing process standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in various joining methods and possess strong leadership and communication skills. This is a six-month contract position based in Warwick, England.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new joining technologies from concept level to industrial readiness level for BIW manufacturing.
  • Review existing joining processes and identify opportunities for reducing CO2e footprint.
  • Conduct benchmarking and best practices studies, including analysing competitor solutions and performing cost/benefit analysis.
  • Write joining process standards and develop and maintain PFMEAs for different joining technologies.
  • Collaborate with project teams to review CAD models and provide technical input on the feasibility of various joining methods.
  • Carry out root cause investigations, capture lessons learned, and embed improvements in foundation documentation.

Key Skills:

  • Experience with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Self-Piercing Riveting (SPR), Resistance Spot Welding (RSW), Adhesive Bonding, Laser Welding, or Flow Drive Screw joining.
  • Knowledge transfer and best practices from the engineering industry to the automotive environment.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to listen to others and demonstrate enthusiasm and passion.
  • Leadership skills to take the lead, achieve results, and meet deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to engage with project stakeholders at all levels.
