Summary: The Java Technical Architect role is a contract position based in Bradford, requiring an experienced professional to lead the design and development of scalable backend applications. The architect will define technical strategies, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver robust solutions. This position demands a strong background in Java and AWS microservices architecture, along with extensive experience in software development. The role is hybrid, requiring three days on-site work each week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design scalable, secure backend systems using Java and related frameworks.
  • Define and enforce coding standards and best practices for development teams.
  • Lead technical discussions, mentoring, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to translate complex business needs into technical solutions.
  • Design and implement n-tier, microservices, and event-driven architectures (on-prem & AWS).
  • Leverage AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, Aurora, DynamoDB, ECS, etc.) for large-scale, high-throughput applications.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural principles, Agile methodologies, and best practices.
  • Guide teams in technology selection and maintain system reliability, security, and performance.

Key Skills:

  • 10+ years in software development, 6+ years in Java/AWS microservices architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, OOP principles, and design patterns.
  • Hands-on with AWS & GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Jenkins, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficient with relational & NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Desirable: Experience with asynchronous programming and message brokers (SQS/SNS).
  • Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure Architect, TOGAF).
  • Familiarity with integration patterns.
  • Proficiency with Java JDK 17/21 and deep understanding of system development lifecycle.

Java Technical Architect – Contract

We’re seeking an experienced Java Technical Architect to lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend applications . You’ll play a pivotal role in defining technical strategy, driving architectural decisions, and collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver robust, future-ready solutions.
