About the Role
Digital Skills are supporting a global technology organisation looking for a Back End Software Engineer to join a high-performing Agile engineering team.
You'll work on customer-facing services within a modern, cloud-native environment, taking ownership across the full development lifecycle - from solution design and development through to testing, deployment and monitoring.
This is not simply a role focused on picking up development tickets. The team is looking for engineers who can bring strong technical skills, fresh perspectives and a high standard of engineering practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable Back End services using Java
- Build and support cloud-native services within AWS
- Break down complex problems into manageable, incremental steps
- Write clean, maintainable code and automated tests
- Work with CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices
- Take ownership of features through to production
- Contribute to system design and technical decision-making
- Collaborate closely with engineers, Product Managers and other stakeholders
- Communicate your approach and technical decisions clearly
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial Java development experience
- Strong AWS experience
- Experience developing and supporting production Back End systems
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD
- A structured approach to problem solving and software development
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working within Agile engineering teams
- Ability to take ownership and work independently
Desirable
- AWS Lambda, Fargate or similar cloud-native services
- Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Pair programming
- Observability, monitoring, SLIs/SLOs
- Distributed systems and scalable architectures
