Java Engineer required to join a major organisation's technology programme on a long-term engagement, working in a hybrid capacity from the West Midlands with competitive rates.
You'll join a specialist engineering team, developing and modernising secure, reliable Back End services that support critical business applications.
Key duties:
- Design and develop robust, scalable Back End applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Write clean, maintainable and testable code.
- Develop automated unit tests using JUnit.
- Contribute to the modernisation of existing Legacy services.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product teams and wider delivery teams.
- Contribute to continuous integration, testing and automation.
- Support applications and investigate service issues where required.
- Participate in an Agile, collaborative and cross-functional engineering environment.
Technical Skills
Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot and JUnit is essential.
Experience with JPA, Kibana, Maven, Mockito, AWS, GitLab, Helm, OpenAPI, SQL or Shell Scripting is desirable.

- Strong commercial experience developing Back End applications using Java.
- Good understanding of Spring Boot and REST/API development.
- Strong understanding of unit testing and software engineering best practices.
- Experience working in Agile and continuous integration environments.
- Comfortable working as part of a collaborative Scrum team.
- Focused on producing clean, maintainable and reliable code.
- Experience working on modernisation or transformation programmes would be advantageous.
Candidates must be able to attend the West Midlands office at least 2 days per week.
Open to candidates based in Telford, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, Stafford, Market Drayton, Birmingham and surrounding areas within a commutable distance.
