Java Developer - Contract
Location: Northampton - Hybrid
Duration: Until 31 March 2027
Working Pattern: 2-3 days onsite per week
Engagement: PAYE via Umbrella
Clearance: BPSS eligibility required
Rate: Competitive day rate
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a major financial services technology environment on a long-term contract through to March 2027.
This is a hands-on development position, working within an established engineering team to deliver robust and scalable Java-based applications. You'll work from low-level designs, develop clean and maintainable code, contribute to technical solutions and help improve development processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain robust and scalable Java applications.
- Translate low-level designs and requirements into working solutions.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and web services.
- Collaborate with other developers and cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions.
- Follow established coding standards and development practices.
- Write and execute unit tests to ensure code quality.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Contribute innovative ideas to solve technical challenges.
- Help improve processes around local development environment creation.
- Ensure applications meet appropriate standards for performance, quality and responsiveness.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java development.
- Experience with J2EE frameworks.
- Strong experience with Spring/Spring Boot.
- Experience with Hibernate.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and web services.
- Experience with SOAP web services.
- Ability to develop solutions from low-level designs.
- Experience writing and executing unit tests.
- Good understanding of software development lifecycle and coding standards.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Important Requirements
- Must be eligible for BPSS.
- Must be able to work 2-3 days per week onsite in Northampton.
- Must be willing to work PAYE through an Umbrella company.
- Contract runs until 31 March 2027.
