Detailed Description From Employer:

Senior Developer (Discovery Engineering)

Join us and build a streaming platform used by millions.

Sky is one of Europe's leading media and entertainment companies, and a part of Comcast Corporation, which also owns NBCUniversal (NBCU). We create award-winning original content, produce the biggest live sporting events and provide free access to news and the arts.

We work on the Global Streaming Platform supporting various video on demand products such as SkyShowtime, Peacock, Showmax, and NowTV.

What is the plot?

Millions of customers use our apps and we have always been looking to improve by pushing the boundaries in our products and services providing every one of our customers experiences they love.

What role will you play?

As a Senior Java Developer, you'll be part of an international team building a Content Management System that powers the content and metadata for Sky's video streaming platforms such as Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and NowTV spanning multiple continents. You'll be developing Java-based end-user applications, including data ingestion pipeline services, internal web applications for editorial teams, and highly scalable APIs. You will be responsible for driving the technical direction of the team, ensuring best practices and high standards are maintained.

In addition to developing new features and technical improvements, you will focus on the resolution of incidents and overall support of the services owned by the team. This includes identifying and resolving issues in the codebase, using debugging tools and techniques to diagnose problems, and ensuring the reliability and robustness of the system. You will propose solutions and make design decisions to address complex technical challenges, ensuring the system's scalability and efficiency. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding the team through technical hurdles and implementing new solutions.

You will also play a crucial role in mentoring less experienced team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow. You will become a subject matter expert in key domain areas, always considering also non-functional testing aspects such as security, resiliency, and performance. Additionally, you will build relationships and communicate proactively with colleagues outside of your immediate team to avoid silos and improve collaboration.

In addition to technical mentoring, you will also focus on coaching junior team members in their overall professional development. This includes helping them build effective communication skills, encouraging collaboration and teamwork, and fostering a supportive environment where they feel confident to ask questions, share ideas, and take ownership of their growth. Your guidance will help cultivate a culture of continuous learning and empowerment.
