We are working with a leading global technology organisation that is building a new connectivity engineering team responsible for integrating a large-scale digital platform with third-party providers.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer II to join a newly formed team working across both existing and greenfield services. The role will involve modernising legacy infrastructure, building new cloud-based capabilities and helping shape the architecture of a long-term connectivity platform.
The successful engineer will be someone who can think beyond individual pieces of code and is comfortable working with distributed systems, cloud architecture, automated testing and system design.
The Role
You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle, helping to design, build, test and operate production services – your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing backend services using Java or Kotlin.
- Working with AWS, particularly cloud-native and serverless technologies such as Lambda.
- Contributing to the migration of existing services from on-premise infrastructure to AWS.
- Helping shape the architecture of new connectivity services.
- Designing integrations and APIs between internal and third-party systems.
- Working with distributed systems and understanding reliability, resilience and scalability.
- Developing robust automated tests alongside production code.
- Contributing to test frameworks and quality-focused engineering practices.
- Monitoring production services and using metrics and other operational data to understand service health.
- Participating in technical design discussions and making informed architectural trade-offs.
- Working collaboratively within an Agile engineering team.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a hands-on Software Engineer with strong systems-thinking capabilities.
- Commercial experience as a Software Engineer, Backend Engineer or similar.
- Strong Java or Kotlin experience.
- Practical experience working with distributed systems or microservices.
- Experience with AWS, ideally including serverless technologies such as Lambda.
- Experience designing or working with APIs and integrations.
- Strong automated testing experience.
- Experience writing tests as part of normal software development rather than working solely within a separate QA function.
- Experience with TDD, unit testing, integration testing or similar quality-driven development practices.
- Good understanding of system design and technical trade-offs.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What Will Make You Stand Out?: We’re particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate:
- Strong system-level thinking.
- Experience designing resilient and scalable services.
- Experience migrating or modernising existing systems.
- AWS Serverless / Lambda experience.
- Experience building robust automated testing frameworks or testing strategies.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container platforms.
- Event-driven or distributed architectures.
- Experience working with production systems and service monitoring.
- Experience incorporating AI tools into software development workflows.
- Exposure to spec-driven development or AI-assisted engineering.
If you’re a backend engineer who combines Java/Kotlin development with strong system-level thinking, AWS experience and a genuine engineering approach to automated testing, we’d be keen to hear from you.
