Summary: The IT Senior Infrastructure Engineer role at RNLI is a temporary position focused on providing expert 3rd-line operational support for both on-premise and cloud infrastructure. The engineer will manage and enhance server environments, contribute to system design, and ensure high availability and security. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and service improvement initiatives. The position is hybrid, requiring a minimum of three days in the office per week in Poole, Dorset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert 3rd-line support for physical, virtual, and public cloud infrastructure
  • Manage and enhance Windows Server and Hyper-V environments
  • Support and optimise Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 platforms
  • Design, implement, and review system security, backup, and disaster recovery controls
  • Deploy enhancements, patches, and upgrades across platforms
  • Contribute to infrastructure design decisions and service improvement initiatives
  • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation and service records
  • Act as a technical mentor and escalation point within the wider infrastructure team

Key Skills:

  • Strong experience supporting physical and virtual Windows Server environments (Hyper-V)
  • Extensive practical experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft 365
  • Proven PowerShell Scripting capability
  • Working knowledge of SQL, SANs, and infrastructure monitoring tools (desirable)

The Role

As an IT Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll act as a senior escalation point for 3rd-line operational support across RNLI's on-premise and cloud infrastructure. You'll take a proactive role in managing, improving, and securing our server and cloud estate, ensuring high availability, resilience, and performance. You'll also contribute to future systems design, service improvement initiatives, and the ongoing evolution of our infrastructure platforms.

About You

To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong technical expertise alongside a proactive, service-focused mindset. Essential experience:

  • Strong experience supporting physical and virtual Windows Server environments (Hyper-V)

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft 365
  • Proven PowerShell Scripting capability
