IT Platform Manager

Summary: The IT Platform Manager role involves leading a team of engineers to ensure the stability and performance of core IT platforms, including servers, databases, and cloud systems. The position requires hands-on experience in infrastructure operations and a strong background in managing platform technologies. The candidate will oversee daily operations, manage technical workloads, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role is based in a hybrid working environment, requiring occasional travel to the Winchester office.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of platform engineers across Microsoft, Linux, VMware, and database technologies.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of all enterprise IT platforms, ensuring availability, performance, and reliability.
• Prioritise and manage the team’s technical workload based on business goals and platform performance.
• Drive continuous improvement across systems, workflows, and team capability.
• Own platform budgeting, resource planning, vendor management, and compliance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leaders and departments to align platform services with business needs.

Key Skills:

• Strong experience leading infrastructure/platform operations teams in a medium to large enterprise.
• Solid knowledge and working experience with Microsoft Servers (AD, O365, etc.), Linux environments, VMware/virtualisation platforms, and database management systems (e.g. SQL).
• Proven track record of progressing from technical hands-on roles (e.g. Engineer > Team Lead > Manager).
• Experience delivering change, implementing new technologies, and managing platform SLAs.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
• Confident managing vendor relationships and third-party support contracts.
• Relevant qualification (Science or Computer Science or similar) and/or industry experience.
