Summary: The IT Network Engineer role in Edinburgh involves building, deploying, and maintaining IT infrastructure, providing technical support to council staff and partners, and contributing to IT Service Management. The position requires collaboration within the Service Centre Team and participation in various technical projects. The engineer will also analyze customer feedback to enhance service delivery and ensure the reliability of council systems. This is a hybrid position with a duration of 6 months and classified as outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, deploy, and maintain IT infrastructure including Windows Server, Storage Area Networks, Virtualisation, Unix Server applications, and Networking Technologies.
  • Deliver technical support and solutions to council staff, pupils, and partners.
  • Contribute to IT Service Management processes.
  • Provide technical skills to assigned projects.
  • Support technical specialisms such as Client and Server Management, Unix Server applications, and Networking Technologies.
  • Participate in projects involving the management technical platform.
  • Assist in analyzing customer feedback to improve service delivery.
  • Support IT Service Centre within quality standards to meet Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ensure reliability and accessibility of council systems.
  • Provide information for effective operation and reporting of IT services.
  • Support the implementation of IT Service Infrastructure in line with plans and standards.
  • Carry out technical tasks to manage complex IT infrastructure elements.

Key Skills:

  • Relevant degree in IT or three years of relevant experience in a similar organization.
  • Two years' experience in implementing and supporting network structures in technical specialisms.
  • Experience with Client and Server Management, Fortinet Firewall, Avaya IPT Networking, Extreme EXOS, and WLAN management.
  • Knowledge of IT security controls.
  • Strong customer focus and decision-making abilities.
  • Comprehensive analytical skills for technical reports.
  • Knowledge and application of ITIL.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certificate or above (desirable).
  • PRINCE2 foundation certificate or knowledge of PRINCE2 (desirable).
  • Technical accreditations in relevant areas (desirable).
  • Experience in supporting diverse technical platforms and IT projects (desirable).
  • Experience in developing strategies, policies, and procedures (desirable).
