Summary: The ION Support Engineer role involves providing second- and third-line support for trading systems within a leading global investment bank. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide second- and third-line support across a range of trading systems for equities, credit, fixed income, and derivative products.
- Cover support shifts between 7am–7pm, with occasional weekend or out-of-hours work.
- Drive improvements in system efficiency, resilience, performance, and accuracy; deliver small-scale enhancements and fixes.
- Co-ordinate and manage software releases into UAT and Production environments, ensuring full documentation and handover into support.
- Define and maintain support requirements for new development releases.
- Ensure all changes follow established change control processes and are properly tracked in version control tools.
- Liaise with external vendors to manage fixes, and co-ordinate UAT/regression testing with business stakeholders.
- Create, update, and maintain documentation across business, support, and maintenance procedures.
Key Skills:
- Degree educated or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years supporting trading platforms in a front-office or high-pressure financial markets environment.
- Strong product knowledge across Fixed Income, Equities, and Derivatives.
- Excellent technical investigation, analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience supporting or working with Bloomberg, TOMS, Markitwire, ION, and bond pricing tools.
- Familiarity with CRM support and client-facing internal tools.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work under pressure and collaborate across technology, trading, and business teams.

I’m working with a leading global investment bank to hire an experienced Trading Application Support Engineer for a 6-month contract (Inside IR35) paying £550/day . This role sits within their Core Markets technology function, providing crucial support across Fixed Income, Equity, and Derivatives trading.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide second- and third-line support across a range of trading systems for equities, credit, fixed income, and derivative products (including bonds, CDS, IRS, and currency swaps).
- Cover support shifts between 7am–7pm (early, normal, and late patterns), with occasional weekend or out-of-hours work.
- Drive improvements in system efficiency, resilience, performance, and accuracy ; deliver small-scale enhancements and fixes.
- Co-ordinate and manage software releases into UAT and Production environments, ensuring full documentation and handover into support.
- Define and maintain support requirements for new development releases (alerting, error logging, thresholds, monitoring, etc).
- Ensure all changes follow established change control processes and are properly tracked in version control tools.
- Liaise with external vendors to manage fixes, and co-ordinate UAT / regression testing with business stakeholders.
- Create, update, and maintain documentation across business, support, and maintenance procedures .
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree educated or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years supporting trading platforms in a front-office or high-pressure financial markets environment.
- Strong product knowledge across Fixed Income, Equities, and Derivatives , including IRS, CDS, ETFs, futures, options, and convertible bonds.
- Excellent technical investigation, analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience supporting or working with: Bloomberg TOMS Markitwire ION (Cash & Swaps) Bond pricing tools D2D / D2C venues and end-to-end STP flows within FI
- Familiarity with CRM support and client-facing internal tools.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work under pressure and collaborate across technology, trading, and business teams.
