Summary: The Internal Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of internal communications strategies at Open GI, focusing on employee engagement and business transformation initiatives. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, requiring collaboration with senior stakeholders and the creation of engaging content. The manager will also oversee an Internal Communications Executive, ensuring high-quality communication across various channels. The position emphasizes fostering a positive workplace culture aligned with the company's mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver the internal communications strategy aligned to business priorities.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CPO and senior leadership team on communication approach and messaging.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to shape clear, consistent and engaging communications.
- Influence and challenge stakeholders to ensure clarity and effectiveness of messaging.
- Lead internal communications for business transformation and change initiatives.
- Partner with programme, technology and people teams to develop communication plans that support adoption and minimise resistance.
- Develop clear and compelling change narratives aligned to organisational strategy.
- Create and deliver high-quality internal communications across a range of channels, including written, visual and multimedia content.
- Line manage and develop the Internal Communications Executive, providing clear direction, coaching and support.
- Support employee engagement and EVP activity, ensuring communications reflect the organisation’s culture, values and priorities.
- Use data and feedback to measure effectiveness and continuously improve communications.
- Oversee internal communication channels ensuring clear governance, consistency and effectiveness.
- Handle internal communications responses to crisis situations.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in an internal communications role, ideally within a complex or fast-paced environment.
- Experience supporting or delivering communications for change or transformation initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging communication.
- Strong content creation capability across a range of formats (written, presentations, basic multimedia).
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade C or above (essential).
- Educated to a business degree or relevant subject (advantage).

Position: About the role We’re looking for an Internal Communications Manager to lead the development and delivery of internal communications across Open GI, supporting both employee engagement and the successful delivery of business transformation and change initiatives. This is a hands-on role combining strategic thinking with delivery. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders while also creating clear, engaging communications that help colleagues understand what’s changing, why it matters, and what it means for them. You’ll also lead and develop an Internal Communications Executive, ensuring a consistent, high-quality approach across all communications activity.
Your key responsibilities Strategy & stakeholder partnership
- Develop and deliver the internal communications strategy aligned to business priorities
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CPO and senior leadership team on communication approach and messaging
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to shape clear, consistent and engaging communications
- Influence and challenge stakeholders to ensure clarity and effectiveness of messaging
Change & transformation communications
- Lead internal communications for business transformation and change initiatives
- Partner with programme, technology and people teams to develop communication plans that support adoption and minimise resistance.
- Develop clear and compelling change narratives aligned to organisational strategy
- Support leader-led communication through briefing materials, toolkits and cascade approaches
Content & channel delivery (hands-on and through team)
- Create and deliver high-quality internal communications across a range of channels, including written, visual and multimedia content
- Ensure consistency of messaging and effective use of team resources, including delegation to the Internal Communications Executive
People leadership
- Line manage and develop the Internal Communications Executive, providing clear direction, coaching and support
- Set priorities and manage workload across the team to balance strategic and delivery requirements
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
Employee engagement & culture
- Support employee engagement and EVP activity, ensuring communications reflect the organisation’s culture, values and priorities.
Measurement & continuous improvement
- Use data and feedback to measure effectiveness and continuously improve communications
Channels & governance
- Oversee internal communication channels ensuring clear governance, consistency and effectiveness.
- Handle internal communications responses to crisis situations
Requirements: Experience
- Proven experience in an internal communications role, ideally within a complex or fast-paced environment
- Experience supporting or delivering communications for change or transformation initiatives
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and leadership teams
- Experience managing or mentoring others (or readiness to step into a line management role)
- Experience creating engaging content across multiple channels
