Key Responsibilities:
- Manage VAT reporting compliance requirements for European and international markets.
- Prepare monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, or annual VAT returns and other indirect tax returns.
- Request VAT submission approvals and follow up on VAT payment requests.
- Prepare VAT General Ledger reconciliation and address open issues.
- Assist with VAT compliance queries and liaise with stakeholders.
- Support the Tax Technology team with testing and implementation.
- Monitor VAT legislation for relevant changes.
- Assist with VAT audits and liaise with tax authorities.
- Support standardisation, automation, and risk management strategies.
Key Skills:
- 2+ years of VAT compliance experience in a multinational tax environment.
- Experience with SAP or Oracle.
- Excellent Excel skills.

A global biopharmaceutical organisation is looking to recruit a VAT accountant on a nine-month temporary contract. With offices across Europe, North America, and China, this well-established, highly respected organisation delivers innovative medicines to patients with life-threatening diseases and this is an exciting opportunity for an inspired and motivated tax specialist to join their eight-person European Tax team at their office in Chester.
Your new role
This role sits within the European Tax team, where you will take responsibility for and manage VAT reporting compliance requirements for a group of markets within the European region and other international markets, as required, ensuring internal and external deadlines are met. You will also provide advice on VAT compliance-related queries, coordinating with external and internal stakeholders where necessary.
- Preparation of monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly or annual VAT returns and other indirect tax returns (sales listings, domestic listings, purchase listings, Intrastat, SAF-T) using Excel and/or indirect tax return preparation tool technology
- Preparing and requesting necessary VAT submission approvals from internal stakeholders and following up on VAT payment requests and archiving documentation after submissions are completed
- Preparation of VAT General Ledger reconciliation and follow-up on issues and open items
- Manage and assist with VAT compliance queries from the business as necessary
- Support the Tax Technology team to test and implement requirements on a timely basis, as necessary
- Continuous monitoring of VAT legislation to identify relevant changes
- Assistance with VAT audits and liaison with tax authorities as necessary
- Support strategy of standardisation and automation, continuous improvement and risk management
What you'll need to succeed
- 2+ years of VAT compliance experience in a multinational tax environment.
