Interim Technology & Transformation Lead Outside IR35 | £550–£750 per day | 6 months | Hybrid / Remote
We are supporting a large public sector organisation to appoint an experienced Interim Technology & Transformation Lead to provide senior-level capacity at a critical point in their transformation journey. This role is designed to relieve pressure on a highly driven Director-level leader, providing operational grip across key technology programmes while creating the space for longer-term service design and strategic thinking. This is not a PMO-led or programme-heavy role. The organisation is looking for someone technically credible who has led large technology teams before and understands how to deliver complex change without overengineering governance.
The Opportunity
You will step into a fast-paced, outcomes-focused environment with several major technology initiatives underway, including large-scale enterprise systems work. Your focus will be on stabilising, progressing and landing key pieces of work rather than designing heavyweight frameworks. A particular priority will be refreshing and completing an existing cyber plan —working with an established technical team to take it over the line and hand it back fit for implementation. The assignment sits ahead of a formal business case and delivery phase, providing leadership and momentum during a key transition period.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational grip across multiple technology and transformation programmes
- Act as a senior technical sounding board, reducing leadership bandwidth pressure
- Refresh and complete the cyber plan in collaboration with the existing team
- Support and lead experienced, technically capable staff through ongoing change
- Balance pace and delivery with empathy, trust-building and cultural awareness
- Enable the Director to focus on service redesign and future-state thinking
What This Role Is Not
- Not a Programme Manager role
- Not PMO-heavy or governance-driven
- Not a cyber specialist position (confidence and awareness helpful, depth not essential)
- Not dependent on local government experience

- Confident working in environments that have experienced significant change
