Summary: The Interim Procurement Lead role in Sheffield involves leading the procurement function during a significant transformation within a major public sector organization focused on passenger transport services. The position requires strategic oversight of complex procurements while ensuring compliance with public procurement regulations. The successful candidate will provide leadership to a skilled team and engage with senior stakeholders to align procurement with organizational goals. This interim position is set for four months with a competitive day rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the procurement function during a period of change, ensuring business continuity and strategic alignment with transformation goals.
- Oversee high-value and complex procurements in line with Public Contract Regulations (PA 23) and emerging procurement reforms.
- Deliver improved commercial outcomes through enhanced sourcing, contract management, and supplier engagement.
- Provide clear leadership to a skilled procurement team, while advising senior stakeholders across operations, legal, and finance.
- Drive a review of current policies, processes, and systems, aligning procurement with new service models and future-proofed delivery.
Key Skills:
- Demonstrable interim leadership experience in public sector procurement, ideally within transport or infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of public procurement legislation and governance.
- Proven track record in delivering results in a change or transformation context.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to challenge, influence, and build consensus at all levels.
- MCIPS qualified (or equivalent experience).

The Role
As Interim Head of Procurement, you will:
