Summary: The role of Interim Principal Accountant (Place) involves managing financial strategies and budgets for a local authority in London. The position is a 6-month contract requiring 2-3 days a week on-site work. The successful candidate will provide high-quality financial advice and ensure compliance with corporate objectives and regulations. This role is critical in identifying savings and developing financial plans aligned with the Council's strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the requirements of the Council’s financial strategy are met
- Identifying savings within the financial budget to support the medium-term financial plan (MTFP)
- Assisting in the development of financial plans, budgets, and forecasts for the “Place and NED” directorate
- Responding to information requests quickly and accurately
- Providing high-quality professional advice on the financial implications of corporate proposals
- Drafting financial comments within committee reports to inform decision making
- Providing financial reports for departmental meetings as required
- Providing specialist technical advice relating to their areas of responsibility
- Advising on the financial aspects of local systems and ensuring processes are robust
- Evaluating legislative and policy changes and assessing the financial impact on the service
Key Skills:
- CCAB or CIMA Qualified with post qualification finance/accounting experience
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong “Place” and “Environment” experience working in a local authority
- Strong strategic FBP experience working in a local authority organisation
