Summary: The Interim Management Accountant role in Plymouth involves overseeing the month-end accounting process within Sage 200 for a leading manufacturing business. The position requires a qualified or part-qualified accountant to stabilize financial processes and deliver timely management accounts during a period of backlog. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in manufacturing finance and the ability to implement process improvements quickly. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement and is expected to last a minimum of six months, starting in early to mid-March 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute the full month end close process within Sage 200
  • Produce accurate and timely management accounts including P&L, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Prepare and review accruals, prepayments, journals and adjustments
  • Reconcile stock, WIP, and manufacturing variances in line with best practice
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or outstanding ledger issues
  • Work hands-on within Sage 200 to ensure data integrity and smooth month end closure
  • Identify weaknesses or gaps in current processes and implement practical improvements
  • Strengthen financial controls, documentation and month end procedures
  • Support the finance team in catching up on delayed reporting cycles
  • Partner with production, operations, and wider finance colleagues to improve data flow
  • Provide insight and recommendations to senior management
  • Support cost control, stock management and manufacturing performance analysis

Key Skills:

  • Background as a Management Accountant, Assistant Finance Manager or similar
  • Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), or QBE with strong experience
  • Hands-on experience with Sage 200, particularly month end procedures
  • Manufacturing sector experience
  • Strong understanding of stock, WIP and cost of manufacture accounting
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise quickly and effectively
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and confident in improving processes
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, time-pressured environment
  • Immediately available or able to start in early March

About the RoleHays are partnering with a leading floor manufacturing business based in Plymouth, who are seeking an experienced Interim Management Accountant to support their finance function during a period of backlog and delayed month end reporting.
You will take full ownership of the month end process within Sage 200, provide hands-on technical accounting support, and deliver accurate, timely management accounts. This role requires someone who can stabilise processes quickly, bring structure to reporting, and work confidently within a manufacturing environment.
