The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking HR professional to join us on a fixed-term, part-time maternity cover. This is a strategic yet hands-on role, providing HR leadership and continuity across The Eastside Rooms and Aloft Birmingham Eastside. Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Regional GM and Senior Leadership Team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining alignment with our people strategy while supporting the ongoing development of our talented HR team of four. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-paced, ambitious business—offering flexibility, autonomy, and variety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your work will be diverse and meaningful. You’ll act as a trusted partner to senior leaders, advising and challenging them to make people-first, commercially sound decisions.
  • You’ll lead positive collaboration with union partners, supporting pay reviews and consultation processes.
  • Mentoring and coaching the HR team will be central to your role, ensuring capability and confidence continue to grow.
  • Driving engagement and inclusion will be a priority—keeping our people strategy alive through wellbeing, recognition, and leadership development initiatives.
  • You’ll use HR metrics to shape decisions, oversee compliance and governance, and empower managers to navigate complex ER situations with fairness and clarity.
  • Above all, you’ll share best practice across both properties, ensuring consistency and continuous improvement.

About You

You’ll bring senior HR generalist experience, ideally within hospitality, events, or another fast-paced service sector. You’ll have proven expertise in industrial relations and union engagement, strong knowledge of employment law, and the ability to interpret HR data to drive insight. Your communication skills will be exceptional, and you’ll be confident influencing at senior level. CIPD Level 7 or equivalent experience is preferred.
