Summary: The Interim Head of Legal for the housing sector will provide legal oversight and advice while leading a legal team to ensure compliance and exceptional service delivery. Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior legal advisor, tackling complex legal cases and contractual matters.
  • Proactively manage relationships with external legal providers, ensuring effective collaboration and monitoring budget spend.
  • Work alongside senior leaders to hold stakeholders accountable for legal requirements, providing training and support to internal teams.
  • Develop and deliver a bespoke legal training programme to mitigate key organisational risks.
  • Identify and manage strategic and operational legal risks, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy.
  • Lead efforts to ensure legal compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee budget controls, ensuring legal activity remains within financial constraints.
  • Drive a performance-focused culture within the team, setting clear objectives and KPIs.
  • Communicate key legal matters to the Senior Leadership Team, simplifying complex issues for various audiences.
  • Assist in creating a culture of ethical leadership and high professional standards across the organisation.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Lawyer with a Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent qualification and a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive experience in a regulated sector, ideally within social housing or property law.
  • Strategic mindset with a knack for performance management and value creation.
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills for conveying complex legal matters with clarity.
