Summary: The Interim Head of Engineering will lead three product-driven engineering teams within a media organization, focusing on strategy, coaching, and leadership rather than coding. This role is pivotal in shaping the digital platform and enhancing user experience for millions. The position requires a seasoned leader with experience in mid-sized tech organizations and a strong understanding of product delivery. The role is hybrid, requiring three days a week in the London office, starting in September for a duration of 3-6 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage three engineering teams, approximately 15 engineers.
- Focus on strategy, coaching, and leading engineering managers.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Drive impactful work on a high-traffic website and growing applications.
- Influence the digital evolution of the client's services.
Key Skills:
- Proven leadership across multiple engineering teams.
- Experience in mid-sized tech organizations (150-200 people).
- Strong product and delivery instincts.
- Ideally, experience in media or ad-tech.
- Familiarity with AWS, BigQuery, TypeScript, Scala, Android (Kotlin), iOS (Swift).
- Experience with high-availability systems and app ownership.

What you’ll bring
- Proven leadership across multiple engineering teams
- Experience in mid-sized tech orgs (~150–200 people, with ownership of circa 15-30)
- Strong product and delivery instincts
- Ideally, media or ad-tech experience
