Summary: This role is for an interim head of compliance at a leading homebuilder, offering the potential for a permanent position. The position requires a compliance expert or regulatory lawyer with strong strategic and managerial skills. The candidate will oversee compliance matters, lead a team, and ensure adherence to various regulations. This role is hybrid, requiring one day per week on-site in the West Midlands office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Point person for all local and global corporate compliance matters, supporting governance and data privacy initiatives.
  • Lead and manage a compliance team.
  • Advise and support on key compliance requirements including Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Data protection and Privacy Laws, Marketing, competition, and ESG.
  • Operate and maintain a compliance control framework.
  • Carry out internal compliance reviews and audits, ensuring recommendations for improvement are embedded.
  • Ensure group-wide policies and procedures meet applicable laws and regulations in the UK and overseas territories, collaborating with external legal counsel and internal operations as needed.
  • Manage compliance risks across the organisation.
  • Assist in resolving contentious matters including investigations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to uphold regulatory and risk frameworks, controls, policies, and procedures for transparent decision-making and effective risk management.
  • Advise senior management on regulatory developments and best practices.
  • Develop compliance and performance metrics and prepare compliance reports for Executive and Board Committees.
  • Deliver compliance training and create delivery models appropriate for a diverse workforce.

Key Skills:

  • Solicitor or degree qualified risk/compliance practitioner with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Data Protection and Privacy laws, Competition/anti-trust, and ESG.
  • Sound experience of change management including driving change within a large organisation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sense of urgency combined with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Able to effectively balance compliance risk with overall business aims and objectives.
  • Commercially minded and solutions-focused.

We are actively seeking a compliance expert or regulatory lawyer for an interim head of compliance role at one of the country’s leading homebuilders on a fixed term contract basis. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys strategic thinking and hand-on and managerial responsibilities in equal measure. Technical competence in this field is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Point person for all local and global corporate compliance matters, with ability to support governance and data privacy initiatives.
