Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation's communications function across digital channels, social media, website content and public engagement activity.
- Develop and deliver communications strategies to support major research projects, investigations, campaigns, films and other public-facing outputs.
- Build strong relationships with research and programme teams to identify and maximise communications opportunities.
- Oversee the promotion and public engagement strategy for exhibitions and key organisational projects.
- Create, edit and oversee compelling content for a range of audiences and platforms.
- Provide strategic communications counsel and act as a trusted adviser to the leadership team.
- Review existing communications processes, identifying opportunities to improve effectiveness, structure and impact.
- Monitor communications performance and recommend approaches to strengthen audience engagement and reach.
- Ensure communications activity maintains the highest professional standards and reflects the organisation's values and reputation.
Requirements
- Significant senior communications experience gained within the NGO, human rights, advocacy, campaigning or social justice sectors.
- Demonstrable experience leading communications strategies and delivering high-profile public-facing campaigns.
- Strong understanding of the political, reputational and cultural sensitivities associated with human rights and advocacy work.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, with a willingness to take a hands-on approach when required.
- Experience building credibility and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, campaigners and senior leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience reviewing communications structures, processes or functions and making recommendations for improvement.
- A strong commitment to human rights, social justice and social change.
