Summary: The Interim Financial Controller role is a critical position within a high-growth, investor-backed healthcare group, focusing on establishing a scalable finance function during a period of accelerated acquisition activity. The successful candidate will design and implement core finance processes and controls across multiple entities, ensuring robust financial management and reporting. This hands-on interim position is essential for supporting ongoing growth and preparing for a permanent senior hire. The role requires immediate availability for a 3-6 month contract with a day rate of £350 outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish a robust financial control environment across multiple entities
- Design and implement chart of accounts, accounting policies and reporting frameworks
- Build and embed a structured month-end close process
- Implement consistent management reporting (entity and group level)
- Review and optimise finance systems and underlying bookkeeping processes
- Develop cashflow forecasting and working capital visibility
- Implement and refine indirect tax processes, including more complex scenarios where relevant
- Create budgeting and forecasting models to support decision-making
- Support post-acquisition integration, ensuring consistency of reporting and controls
- Develop board and investor reporting outputs
- Provide a clear roadmap and documentation for the incoming permanent hire
Key Skills:
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong hands-on controllership experience
- Proven track record in building or improving finance functions in scaling environments
- Experience in multi-entity or multi-site businesses, ideally investor-backed
- Strong technical grounding across financial control, reporting, and compliance
- Comfortable operating in a low-structure, fast-paced environment
- Systems-aware, with experience improving SME finance systems and processes, Xero desirable
- Exposure to acquisition environments or integration workstreams is advantageous
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused, and able to implement at pace

Context

The business operates a multi-entity structure and is entering a period of accelerated acquisition activity. Finance is currently founder-led with limited infrastructure. This role is a critical interim mandate to establish a scalable finance function ahead of a permanent senior hire.
The Mandate
A hands-on interim to design, implement and embed core finance processes, controls and reporting across the group. The focus is on building a fit-for-purpose finance function that can support ongoing growth, integration of acquisitions, and increased investor scrutiny.
