Summary: The Interim Governance & Audit Manager will oversee governance arrangements and internal audit programs within a social housing organization for a fixed term of six months. This role involves leading a governance support team, ensuring compliance with corporate governance regulations, and developing policies to support stakeholders. The position is based in Birmingham with a hybrid work pattern, requiring strong organizational and communication skills. Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and managing governance arrangements to ensure effective board and committee liaison and management and board member development
  • Leading a high quality governance advice and support team, ensuring compliance with corporate governance legislation and regulations
  • Overseeing the development of an appropriate governance framework to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the development and review of governance related policies and procedures
  • Developing and managing robust arrangements for internal audit and overseeing the delivery of an internal audit programme (delivered by an external provider)

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in a governance or company secretary role, preferably with experience of successfully managing governance services
  • Knowledge of corporate governance principles and relevant regulation, including the legislative and regulatory frameworks applicable to the social housing sector
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of motivating, leading and empowering staff teams to achieve team objectives and positive outcomes
  • Professional governance qualification e.g. Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) - desirable
  • Experience of working effectively and constructively with senior internal and external stakeholders including working extensively with Board and Committee members

Position: Interim Governance & Audit Manager (Fixed Term Contract – 6 months)

Salary: £52,791 + 2025/26 pay award pending

Location: Birmingham Business Park / Hybrid

Work Pattern: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
