Hays are partnering with a well-established charitable organisation in Bristol to recruit an experienced Finance Manager on an initial contract of at least 6 months.

Operating within a complex and evolving environment, the organisation manages annual income and expenditure of approximately £1.4 million across multiple funding streams and serves a wide range of community-focused initiatives.

Your New Role

As Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the effective financial management of the organisation, providing both strategic oversight and hands-on financial leadership.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will ensure robust financial controls, accurate reporting, effective budgeting and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing all day-to-day financial operations.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Monitoring income and expenditure against budget, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Managing cash flow and supporting long-term financial planning.
  • Preparing year-end accounts and acting as the key contact for auditors or independent examiners.
  • Maintaining strong financial controls, governance frameworks and risk management processes.
  • Managing and monitoring restricted, designated and unrestricted funds.
  • Overseeing payroll, pensions and staff-related financial matters.
  • Developing and improving financial systems, processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Presenting financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

What You Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced finance professional with a strong background in financial management, accounting and business partnering.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
  • Experience producing management accounts and financial reports.
  • Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
  • A strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Previous experience within a charity, not-for-profit or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of charity accounting and fund management.
  • Experience managing complex or multi-stream income sources.
  • Exposure to payroll, pensions and employment-related finance matters.
