Hays are partnering with a well-established charitable organisation in Bristol to recruit an experienced Finance Manager on an initial contract of at least 6 months.
Operating within a complex and evolving environment, the organisation manages annual income and expenditure of approximately £1.4 million across multiple funding streams and serves a wide range of community-focused initiatives.

Your New Role
As Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the effective financial management of the organisation, providing both strategic oversight and hands-on financial leadership.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will ensure robust financial controls, accurate reporting, effective budgeting and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing all day-to-day financial operations.
- Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior stakeholders.
- Monitoring income and expenditure against budget, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Managing cash flow and supporting long-term financial planning.
- Preparing year-end accounts and acting as the key contact for auditors or independent examiners.
- Maintaining strong financial controls, governance frameworks and risk management processes.
- Managing and monitoring restricted, designated and unrestricted funds.
- Overseeing payroll, pensions and staff-related financial matters.
- Developing and improving financial systems, processes and reporting capabilities.
- Presenting financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
What You Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced finance professional with a strong background in financial management, accounting and business partnering.
You will also demonstrate:
- Significant experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
- Experience producing management accounts and financial reports.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
- A strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Desirable experience includes:
- Previous experience within a charity, not-for-profit or public sector environment.
- Knowledge of charity accounting and fund management.
- Experience managing complex or multi-stream income sources.
- Exposure to payroll, pensions and employment-related finance matters.
