Summary: The Interim Finance Manager will oversee the finance function of a growing SME, ensuring financial control and delivering accurate financial information. This role involves leading a small finance team and acting as a business partner to support leadership in budgeting, cashflow management, and process improvements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in management accounting and a proven track record in mentoring teams and establishing financial controls. Responsibilities include managing ledgers, producing management accounts, and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing all aspects of the finance function, including purchase, sales, and nominal ledgers, monthly close, and reconciliations
- Producing timely monthly management accounts and cashflow forecasts
- Monitoring financial performance, driving efficiencies, and supporting the Managing Director in strategic and operational decision-making
- Overseeing payroll, pension administration, and VAT returns
- Leading on budgeting and forecasting, ensuring full integration of P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory, legal, and taxation obligations
- Maintaining and improving robust internal controls and financial systems
- Managing supplier contracts and procurement to achieve best value
- Providing leadership and mentoring to finance apprentices and junior staff

The role
The Interim Finance Manager will take responsibility for all aspects of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control and the delivery of timely, accurate, and insightful information. Leading a small finance team, the Interim Finance Manager will be a proactive business partner, supporting leadership in developing budgets, managing cashflow, and improving processes across finance and IT.
About you
You will be a hands-on, commercially minded finance professional with extensive experience of management accounting, cashflow management, and financial reporting. You will have a proven track record of mentoring teams, establishing strong financial controls, and supporting business growth through sound commercial advice.
As the Interim Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Up to £60,000 PAYE, or £250–£300 per day via Umbrella
