Summary: The Interim Finance Director will lead the finance team of a fast-growing renewable energy business, focusing on strategic financial management and compliance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial processes and systems aligned with company goals.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide regular financial forecasts and analysis.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Assess and manage financial risks, implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the finance and accounting team.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/FCA/FCCA/CIMA/ACMA/CGMA).

The Business & Opportunity:

Lyons Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership with an exciting fast growth business, operating in the renewable energy sector.

As Interim Finance Director you will play a crucial role in the strategic direction of the business, providing leadership, direction and management of the finance team, whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice.

The business offers a truly flexible and hybrid working approach, where you will be based at their new modern offices in the centre of York 3 days per week, with the option of the other 2 days from home.

This is initially a 6-month contract, with the potential of either being extended or converting to permanent.

Specific Requirement:

Your initial emphasis will be on cashflow management and lender liaison, but a broader scope is as follows…

Financial Planning:

  • Develop and implement financial processes and systems aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide regular financial forecasts and analysis.
  • Evaluate and advise the executive on the financial impact of strategic decisions.
  • In collaboration with senior colleagues, provide direction in the deployment of the business’ resources.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and cash flow management.
  • Advise and challenge senior colleagues on financial matters.
  • Monitor and analyse financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

Financial Risk Management:

  • Assess and manage financial risks, including credit, market, and operational risks.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company's financial assets, facilitating effective decision making by other managers.
  • Develop systems, processes and reports to inform senior leaders of the business on risk appetite and mitigation of financial decisions.

Team Leadership:

  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the finance and accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and ethical behaviour.
  • Develop and nurture talent.
  • Embody the business core values, leading by example and helping to develop the broader team.

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to provide financial insights and recommendations.
  • Work closely with the CFO, building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, such as investors, lenders, and regulatory authorities.

Skills & Experience required:

  • Qualified Accountant. (ACA/ACCA/FCA/FCCA/CIMA/ACMA/CGMA)
  • In-depth knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in a senior finance role, not necessarily specifically as FD.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial and operational drivers in either the energy, infrastructure or similarly complex and transferable sector.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

What’s on Offer:

  • Salary in the region of c£85,000
  • A truly hybrid approach, as long as you’re able to attend the York office at least three times per week.
