Summary: The Interim Finance Director will lead the Divisional Finance operation, providing financial advice to the Managing Director and Management Team while ensuring efficient and cost-effective financial management. This role is pivotal in driving the financial agenda and supporting business growth through accurate forecasting and planning. The successful candidate will manage a team, ensuring adherence to financial regulations and promoting the company's values. This position is based in Manchester and is offered as a 6-month fixed-term contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead an efficient and cost-effective Divisional Finance operation.
- Provide financial advice to the Managing Director and Management Team.
- Drive the financial agenda while maintaining checks and balances.
- Ensure the Finance team is well-resourced and directed.
- Input into feasibility modelling and support rolling growth plans.
- Complete accurate forecasting and planning in line with Regional requirements.
- Identify and resolve significant issues impacting the Division.
- Take responsibility for all financial management and reporting.
- Ensure adherence to the Group Accounts Manual regarding Cash Management.
- Manage payment processing for accuracy and timeliness.
- Develop and lead business continuity processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Report appropriately to the Managing Director and Divisional Board.
- Promote and act in accordance with Group values and policies.

Reporting to the Managing Director, and indirect reporting line to Regional Finance Director, to lead an efficient and cost-effective Divisional Finance operation, provide financial advice to the MD and the Management Team, and contribute fully in that team on wider Business issues. Drive financial agenda whilst ensuring appropriate checks and balances are in place and maintained in order to support the growth and achievement of business success.
You will be expected to:
- Ensure the Finance team are fully resourced and well-directed, with clear guidelines to their own job responsibilities, and are provided with full support in achieving these, in terms of communication, training and development, and the organisation of the department’s workload
- Input into feasibility modelling and support the development of rolling growth plans through financial forecasting and planning
- Complete accurate and robust forecasting and planning in line with Regional requirements
- Identify and ensure the resolution of issues that have significant impact on the Division
- Take responsibility for all financial management and reporting
- Ensure adherence with the Group Accounts Manual as regards Cash Management; operate and control all activities within the cash budgets
- Manage payment processing to ensure an accurate and timely service, using the Group systems
- Develop and take lead responsibility for the key processes/recovery actions for business continuity (disaster recovery); ensure adequate planning and testing
- Ensure the implementation and use of Group IT systems in line with Group policy
- Take responsibility for Administration and Office Services (in the absence of an Office Manager)
- Ensure Division complies with all relevant legislation, regulations and statutory guidelines, including Health and Safety obligations
- Appropriately reporting to the MD and Divisional Board in line with the standard format and schedule
- Promote and act in accordance with Group values, systems, policies and procedures
What You’ll Need To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
- A professionally qualified accountant with considerable post qualification experience in a senior commercial accounting role, ideally within the house-building sector
- Highly numerate individual with strong IT and financial analysis skills, coupled with the ability to interpret data and assess impacts on the business
- Experience of managing budgets/cost control, and planning and organising work to meet targets
- Ability and willingness to contribute a professional opinion to the overall management of the business.
- Self-confidence, decisiveness, resilience and ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- A motivational team-leader focused on managing, coaching and developing the team to achieve their full potential
