Summary: The Interim Accountant role at a leading marine infrastructure business requires an experienced professional to manage maintenance operational costs and ensure financial accuracy. The position involves working autonomously, reporting to the Finance Director, and engaging with the Leadership team. The initial contract is for three months with potential for extension, based in Seafield, Scotland. Candidates must be qualified accountants with relevant industry experience and supervisory skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of Maintenance operational costs of all vessels, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparation and distribution of month-end review files for senior leadership.
  • Review and analysis of vessel costs, ensuring proper capitalization.
  • Input into month-end reporting pack submissions for private equity investors.
  • Perform month-end closure activities, including AP closure and Invoice/PO Accrual postings.
  • Preparation and posting of monthly general accruals and reclassifications.
  • Process intercompany transactions and maintain the general ledger.
  • Approval of manual payments and BACS payment runs.
  • Completion of Balance Sheet Reconciliation and addressing variances.
  • Support year-end audit activities and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure tax compliance and provide support to tax advisors.
  • Adhere to Finance processes and controls.
  • Support department enhancements in reporting and internal controls.
  • Supervise two Accounts Assistants, providing guidance for their development.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified with a professional qualification (ICAS/ ACCA/ CIMA).
  • Experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant in a fast-paced environment.

Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be supporting a leading marine infrastructure business to recruit an Interim Accountant. This role is required to start immediately for an initial period of three months but could be extended. Working from a desirable office location to the West of Aberdeen, the successful candidate will report to the Finance Director and have exposure to the Leadership team. The role requires an experienced candidate to work autonomously to execute exceptional results with minimal supervision.

The Opportunity

  • Ownership of Maintenance operational costs of all vessels, ensuring they are complete and accurate. Any variations are thoroughly investigated and rectified
  • Preparation and distribution of Maintenance operational cost month end review files internally for review and discussion with senior leadership
  • Review and analysis costs of vessels, ensuring they are complete and accurate, and appropriately capitalizing costs
  • Input into month end reporting pack submissions for private equity investors
  • Perform month end closure activities, AP closure and Invoice/PO Accrual postings
  • Preparation and posting of monthly general accruals and reclassifications
  • Process intercompany transactions
  • Maintenance of general ledger
  • Approval of manual payments and BACS payment runs in relevant banking portals
  • Completion of Balance Sheet Reconciliation on timely basis and addressing variances in a timely manner
  • Year end audit activity, liaising with external auditors and ensuring support and back-up provided as per timelines
  • Tax compliance, prepare and provide support and analysis to tax advisors to ensure timely submissions
  • Adhere to Finance process and controls
  • Support department to enhance reporting, process, procedure and internal controls framework
  • Supervision of two Accounts Assistants providing support and guidance to enhance their professional development and performance

Background And Experience

  • Qualified with a professional qualification (ICAS/ ACCA/ CIMA)
  • Accountants who trained in practice and have gained relevant industry experience are preferred
  • Experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant within a fast-paced demanding business is essential
  • Excellent financial modelling skills
