Infrastructure & Network Engineer - Linux / Cisco 6 Month Contract Pimlico Banks are recruiting an Infrastructure & Network Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team of an established organisation in Birmingham.
This is a hands-on role working across a large and varied infrastructure estate, with a particular focus on networking, network security and physical Linux server infrastructure.
We're looking for someone with solid commercial infrastructure and networking experience who is comfortable working across a broad technical environment and can contribute from the outset.
This isn't a Windows Server-focused infrastructure position. We're particularly interested in engineers with strong networking skills and hands-on experience working with Linux-based server environments.
The role will involve:
- Supporting and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure
- Configuring and troubleshooting switches, routers and firewalls
- Working with Cisco networking technologies
- Supporting Check Point and Fortinet security environments
- Working with SD-WAN infrastructure
- Installing, configuring and maintaining Linux servers
- Building and commissioning physical server hardware
- Supporting virtualised environments
- Server patching and general infrastructure maintenance
- Troubleshooting network, server and infrastructure issues
- Supporting infrastructure upgrades and improvement projects
- Installing servers and network equipment at other sites when required
- Maintaining technical documentation and following security processes
We're looking for someone who:
- Has solid commercial Infrastructure and Network Engineering experience
- Has a strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing and switching
- Has hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise network equipment
- Has commercial experience working with Linux servers
- Has experience with firewalls and network security
- Is comfortable working with physical server hardware
- Has strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Is comfortable taking ownership of technical issues and seeing them through to resolution
- Is willing to travel to other sites occasionally when required
- Holds a valid driving licence
Experience with Cisco, Check Point, Fortinet, SD-WAN and Linux server hardware would be particularly useful, although we're not expecting someone to have worked with every technology.
You'll be joining a highly experienced infrastructure team with extensive knowledge across networking, servers and security.
The role is predominantly onsite in Birmingham, with a minimum of three days per week onsite.
There will also be occasional travel to other locations and some out-of-hours work where required.
