Summary: The role of LBS Engineer involves providing technical support and administration for Windows server operating systems within a Defence Client's infrastructure, requiring on-site presence in Oakdale, South Wales. The position is contract-based for an initial duration of six months and requires active SC/DV clearance. Candidates must possess significant hands-on experience with various Microsoft technologies and be capable of producing documentation and work packages. The role is classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, administration, and support of Windows server operating systems, particularly Windows Server 2016 in a virtualised environment.
- Design, configuration, and administration of Active Directory in a secure environment.
- Collaboration with team members to deliver capabilities and independent design and implementation based on high-level requirements.
- Production of High and Low Level documentation and build instructions.
- Creation of work packages and progress reporting.
- Providing support to Live Services for issue resolution as required.
- Design, configuration, implementation, and administration of PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SharePoint, and other related technologies.
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of a virtual server infrastructure based on Windows Hyper-V.
- Configuration and administration of backup and restore processes for Windows-based systems.
- Patching Windows-based systems and associated software.
- Configuration of peripheral devices and Microsoft Windows client based on Windows 10.
- Working with PowerShell and competency in Microsoft Office suite.
Key Skills:
- Significant hands-on experience with Windows Server 2016 and virtualised environments.
- Experience with Active Directory administration.
- Ability to produce High and Low Level documentation.
- Experience with PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SharePoint, and other Microsoft technologies.
- Experience with Windows Hyper-V virtualization.

Our Defence Client is looking for two LBS Engineers to be based 5 days per week onsite in Oakdale, South Wales. This would be on an initial 6 month contract which has been deemed inside IR35. Please note an active SC/DV clearance is required for this position. The LBS infrastructure is made up of Microsoft Windows Servers and other Microsoft software applications and toolsets on a virtualised Windows Hyper-V platform.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience: In order to deliver this service, it is essential that individuals have a number of technical competencies, including:
- Significant hands-on experience in:
- The installation, configuration, maintenance, administration and support of Windows server operating systems, especially Windows Server 2016, especially within a virtualised environment.
- The design, configuration and administration of Active Directory, preferably in a secure environment.
- Working as part of a team to deliver a capability as well as work on their own to design and implement as per high level requirements.
- Must be able to produce High and Low Level documentation as well as build instructions.
- Produce work packages and report on progress.
- Must be able to provide when required, support to Live Services on resolving issues.
- Several years’ experience in some of the following areas:
- Design, configuration, implementation and administration of PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SharePoint, Skype for Business (experience of Unified Comms from other vendors considered a bonus), WSUS,SQL, Trend (or similar AV products), Proxy, Veeam.
- Experience in some of the following areas:
- The installation, configuration, maintenance, administration and support of a virtual server infrastructure, based on Windows Hyper-V virtualization
- Configuring and administering the backup and restore of Windows based systems.
- Patching Windows based systems and associated software.
- Configuring peripheral devices.
- Microsoft Windows client configuration based on Windows 10.
- Experience working with PowerShell.
- Competency in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
