Summary: The role of Infrastructure Engineer requires an individual with active DV Clearance to support a significant program in the defence sector. The engineer will be responsible for deploying, transitioning, and maintaining critical IT applications and infrastructure solutions. The position involves working with a variety of technologies and collaborating with diverse teams to implement modern infrastructure solutions. This is a contract role for an initial period of 6 months, classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, transition, and maintain critical IT applications and infrastructure solutions.
- Implement modern infrastructure solutions using technologies such as VMware NSX, vSphere, ESXi, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Collaborate with diverse teams and communicate effectively across technical and organizational boundaries.
- Shape best practices in a secure-by-design environment.
Key Skills:
- Extensive experience with VMware virtualization technologies (ESXi, vSphere, NSX, VLCM).
- Experience working in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server deployment, configuration, and management.
- Some experience with Linux (RHEL) server management.
- Hands-on experience with Dell hardware, PowerEdge Servers, and PowerVault storage.
- Networking expertise, including configuring switches and VLANs.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible.
- Experience with automation, DevSecOps practices, and scripting (PowerShell).
- Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and hyperscale cloud environments (AWS preferred).
Salary (Rate): £700 per day

The Role
In this role, you will be at the forefront of implementing modern infrastructure solutions, utilizing a broad spectrum of technologies including VMware NSX, vSphere, ESXi, Terraform, Ansible, Windows Server, Linux (RHEL), and a variety of hardware and networking components. You’ll collaborate with diverse teams, communicate effectively across technical and organizational boundaries, and help shape best practices in a secure-by-design environment.
The Person
What experience will you have?
- Extensive experience with VMware virtualization technologies (ESXi, vSphere, NSX, VLCM)
- Experience working in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server deployment, configuration, and management (including AD, DNS, WSUS, GPOs, PKI)
- Some experience with Linux (RHEL) server management
- Hands-on experience with Dell hardware, PowerEdge Servers, PowerVault storage, QNAP NAS, and data diodes
- Networking expertise, including configuring switches, VLANs, and best practices
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible
- Experience with automation, DevSecOps practices, and scripting (PowerShell)
- Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and hyperscale cloud environments (AWS preferred)
