Summary: The HVAC Design Engineer role involves developing detailed designs and specifications for nuclear facilities using CAD software, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing project timelines and budgets. The position requires collaboration across departments and the preparation of technical documentation. Candidates must hold UK SC Clearance and have a background in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the nuclear sector. This contract role is based in the Reading area and is expected to last for 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed designs and specifications using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
- Support the safe decommissioning of nuclear facilities, systems, and assets
- Create and test prototypes ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards
- Conduct technical research to inform design and engineering approaches
- Manage timelines, resources, and budgets in line with nuclear regulations
- Collaborate across departments to ensure design coherence and safety
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and reports
- Conduct simulations and virtual testing of mechanical designs
- Monitor technological advancements and design best practices in the nuclear field
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally in the nuclear sector
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
- Strong analytical, time management, and communication skills
- Familiarity with nuclear industry standards and regulations
- PE certification (preferred)
- Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and simulation tools (preferred)
- Knowledge of nuclear-specific materials and manufacturing processes (preferred)
