Summary: The HV Cable Project Engineer role involves overseeing the full project life cycle for high voltage cable projects within the transmission sector in Scotland. Key Responsibilities:
- Involved in the full project life cycle, from project definition to completion.
- Prepare and evaluate tenders, and develop conceptual and front-end designs.
- Provide cable engineering support across multiple projects, including design reviews and technology assessments.
- Develop technical scopes and specifications for new and existing underground cable projects.
- Review cable system prequalification and type testing reports for client approval.
- Provide technical support to site teams for quality installations and commissioning activities.
- Evaluate tenders and manage specialist services from consultants.
- Promote and manage safety within projects, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Project Managers to mitigate engineering and quality risks.
- Provide technical support on high-profile or complex issues.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of HND in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Demonstrable experience in high voltage (HV) projects.
- Previous transmission experience required.
- At least 3+ years of cable project experience.
- Proficiency in CYMCAP software for current rating calculations.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and CDM procedures.
- Ability to develop technical scopes and specifications.
- Experience in reviewing and verifying detailed cable system designs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Key Duties:
Involved in the full project life cycle, from project definition, preparing and evaluating tenders, conceptual and front-end design development, detail design reviews, HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP sessions into supporting construction, installation, commissioning and project completion. providing cable engineering support across multiple projects by producing or reviewing outline cable system designs during development phases, including: review and assessment of technology options, underground cable routing selection, producing current rating calculations using CYMCAP software and assessment of interface requirements. Developing technical scopes and specifications for new underground cable projects as well as modifications to existing assets. Reviewing cable system prequalification and type testing reports in preparation for Client's approval, reviewing and verifying contractor/consultant detailed underground cable system designs, witnessing factory and relevant discipline site acceptance testing. Providing technical support to site teams to ensure quality of installations and cable commissioning activities. Evaluate tenders and procure and manage specialist services from consultants. promoting and managing safety within your assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations. working closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and mitigated. providing technical support on high profile projects or technically complex issues.
Essential requirements
