HR Manager - Maternity Contract

Hays HR is recruiting an experienced HR Manager for a specialist provider.

The organisation operates across multiple locations and provides a broad range of learning and employability skills.

Due to the organisations' location and potential occasional local travel, applicants must have their own transport and be willing to travel between local sites when required.

Mileage and expenses for business travel during the working day will be provided.

Your new role

Reporting to the Director of HR, you will lead the delivery of a high-quality, consistent HR service across the organisation.

You will work closely with managers to strengthen people management practices, implement HR best practice and contribute to the continued development of the organisation's HR strategy, policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing expert HR advice and guidance to managers and employees
  • Supporting disciplinary, grievance, absence and other employee relations matters
  • Supporting managers to improve their people management knowledge and capability
  • Monitoring staff appraisal and supervision processes
  • Maintaining accurate centralised HR records and producing management reports
  • Developing and delivering induction and HR management training
  • Coordinating recruitment and selection with HR admin/recruitment support
  • Maintaining recruitment trackers and monitoring vacancies through to appointment
  • Supporting staff wellbeing, reasonable adjustments and return-to-work processes
  • Contributing to organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced HR generalist with the confidence and credibility to advise managers across a complex organisation.

You should be CIPD-qualified or currently working towards a relevant HR qualification and have significant experience of managing varied employee relations and operational HR and recruitment matters.

Additional requirements

  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures and the application of employment legislation in a UK-based company
  • Experience of managing a substantial and varied workload
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence communicating with stakeholders at all organisational levels
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience of using HR database software would be advantageous
  • Experience of supporting significant organisational change would be desirable
  • A flexible and pragmatic approach
  • Your own transport and willingness to travel between sites

Enhanced compliance

The successful applicant will therefore be required to complete enhanced pre-employment compliance checks, including a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

Where applicable to the duties undertaken, checks against the relevant barred lists may also be required.

What you'll get in return

You will receive a salary of £40,000 to £45,000, dependent on experience, together with 30 days' annual leave plus bank holidays on a pro rata basis.

Following successful probation, additional benefits include a health scheme and life cover, alongside a workplace pension.

The position offers an immediate start, with four days per week based on site in Chesterfield and one day working from home.
